About Joseph Cowman

Joseph Cowman

Joseph Cowman is a self taught artist, born in Maryland in 1976, and is the oldest of four children. His family moved from Maryland to Emmett, Idaho in 1981, where Joseph spent the remainder of his childhood. He grew up in a very artistic family, and his parents were always very supportive of his creativity. This allowed him time to explore artistically. His artwork began in graphite, which lasted for several years, then was convinced years later,by his wife, to try watercolor, he immediately loved working in the medium and had a natural command of it, and consequently has spent the last few years working primarily in watercolor. Joseph now resides in Caldwell, Idaho with his wife, Kari and their three children. He is a full time ceramist and likes to spend most of his free time with his family while still devoting as much time as possible exploring his artistic passion.

It is difficult to place Joseph's work into one particular genre as it is unique in it's style. Joseph draws inspiration from people in the world around him. Joseph enjoys being able to create images that are intriguing and thought evoking. He feels that his pieces may have different meanings for different people, and he hopes that each person who sees his art will study it and arrive at their own interpretation of the work.
